The Real Story
Beyond The Box Score
Adames grew up in the small mountain town of Jánico in the Dominican Republic, tagging along at age five to watch his uncles and cousins play pickup ball on Sundays before leaving home at 14 to train at a baseball academy. In December 2024 he signed a franchise-record seven-year, $182 million deal with the Giants, and his parents flew in to be part of his introduction at Oracle Park. After a slow start to his first San Francisco season — his OPS was below .600 in June 2025 — Adames caught fire down the stretch, and teammates, coaches and fans voted him the 2025 Willie Mac Award as the club's most inspirational player, with his parents throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the ceremony.
A rough first half in his debut Giants season (sub-.600 OPS by June) turned into a near-30-homer year and a teammate-voted 'most inspirational Giant' honor in his very first season with the club.
